ERA Landmark's 2017 Season of Giving

The holiday season is upon us and we would like to take the opportunity to wish you and your family a very Happy Holiday! Because of our loyal clients, the local community is filled with more happiness during our 30th annual ERA Landmark "Season of Giving".

Since 1987, ERA Landmark and our associates have contributed a portion of each commission to a fund dedicated to assisting children in our community. Every November and December, during the "Season of Giving," we allocate these funds, plus additional gifts from our associates, to local organizations to help make the holidays a little brighter for local families in need. This year, we are happy to support Adopt-A-Sox, Big Sky Food Bank, Boys & Girls Club, Family Promise, Gallatin Valley Food Bank, Haven, Madison County Food Bank, and Thrive.

Thank you for making our "Season of Giving" possible. The gifts we are donating are on display in the windows at our downtown Bozeman office at 8 East Main Street. We invite you to stop in a take a look.

In 2010, our Livingston office began a "stocking stuffer" program.  They partner with several other affiliate businesses to raise money to fill stockings for local area children. Families are referred to them by Livingston organizations who want to help the recipients have a Merry Christmas. Each year, 30-60 individual children have enjoyed a little brighter Christmas from these efforts.

We live here, we love it here, and we feel very fortunate to be able to support the organizations that make our community unique and compassionate. Cheers to a successful new year!

Sincerely,
Robyn Erlenbush
Broker/Owner

Celebrating Historic Significance

Bozeman is appreciated for so many reasons, but the abundance of stunning, historic homes is especially enjoyed by many of us in the real estate industry. The opportunity to list or sell a home that was built during the early days of Bozeman's thriving development is certainly an honor.

Around 1873, the town of Bozeman had grown enough to begin construction of permanent buildings and homes, and by 1883 the City of Bozeman was incorporated. The years since then have witnessed substantial growth into what we now see. And as some structures have been neglected and gone by the wayside, so many others have been diligently cared for and renovated as needed for preservation. In the 1980s, historic districts were set up and homes began to be placed on the historic registry. For example, South Black - South Tracy Avenue District is the most highly concentrated, especially of bungalow style homes. The Bon Ton District, in the area directly surrounding the 200-1000 blocks of South Willson, features many of the more distinguished early Bozeman residences.

According to the City of Bozeman's website, there are currently 42 structures, both residential and commercial, that are classified as historic. Several more are under review on the pending list. It is a worthwhile endeavor to peruse the site and read about their historical significance.

Let the Sun Shine

Northwestern Energy Solar Energy Project in Bozeman, Montana.

Soaking up the sun! Most of us have been participating in this popular catchphrase for the last couple of months while the days are longer and the rays are plentiful. And while we humans enjoy the warmth and dose of Vitamin D that the sun provides, our homes and commercial buildings can also reap the benefits from that large star in the sky in the form of solar energy.

The discovery that the sun's power could be harnessed via solar cells began as far back as 1876, but it wasn't until the 1950s that the practice made real forward progress. The 1960s saw NASA utilizing this cutting edge technology as well with solar powered satellites. While at first quite cost prohibitive, the following decades have vastly improved the ability to make this technology feasible and affordable. It is certainly reasonable to assume that the use of solar energy will continue to evolve and become more prevalent.

Next, the much-anticipated return of one of our most requested guest artists: Van Cliburn Gold Medalist Jon Nakamatsu, performing Gershwin's flashy Piano Concerto in F. A deeply introspective moment follows with Samuel Barber's Essay No. 1, followed by the Symphonic Dances from one of our greatest American masterpieces, West Side Story.

316 E. Ennis Street, Ennis
$295,000 | MLS 301319

This charming vintage home has been remodeled in the past but needs some TLC. It is comfortable and livable as it is, but in need of upgrading. Would make an excellent vacation cottage or rental. Property consists of 3 lots (144' x 50' each) so the additional lots could be developed. This property borders a large pasture in the flood plain that cannot be built on which offers wonderful privacy and views of the mountains. The Madison River is a short distance away and could probably be seen from a second story, if another structure were built on the property. The house is in a lovely setting with large trees and open space. Lots of potential.
